Race for Life 2013

I can't believe I am about to say this but I COMPLETED RACE FOR LIFE!!! If you have been to my blog before you will have seen my page about my beautiful Auntie Kathy who sadly lost her battle this year to cancer.  I've always wanted to run Race for Life but I've always thought that because of my weight there would be no way I could run 5k. So I decided to join Weight Watchers, get my trainers on and start to train.

Dan was great and got me out and up to the park to do laps of the field with Dave, which he loved. As the weeks went by the weight began to drop off of me and it really gave me a boost to continue. I found a great app on my phone called 'Map my dog walk' (you can get the non-dog walking one called Map my Walk, it does exactly the same thing) it was great and everyday I would try and beat the time that I had done the previous day. We went on some lovely walks and it really got me used to that horrible thing I had been dodging for years....exercise!

The night before the race my lovely sister Lauren painted my nails for me ready for the race. She is clever isn't she!!!

To take part you have to wear your number on your front and they also give you a sign to wear on your back to show who you're running for. You can write whatever you want! Seeing everyone elses signs with "running for me...I kicked Cancer's butt' or 'running for my daughter' really kept me going.......and made me very emotional!

When we arrived at Reading it was packed. There were so many people there all wanting to do the same thing, raise lots of money for charity and show cancer who's boss!

I was very lucky and had lots of people there to support me and cheer me along the way. Dan was there (unfortunately with his camera!) along with Mum, Dad, Lauren, Hannah (Kathy's daughter) her partner Mark and their gorgeous little dog called Macca! And of course not forgetting Dave who was so excited by the whole day out.

Can you see me?! It's not a great photo but I haven't run since I have in school and that was ....well a long time ago.

The whole day was brilliant and I'm definately going to be doing it again next year WITH Lauren and Mum. They don't know it yet but they'll be doing it with me.

Crossing that finish line filled me with so many emotions, mostly sadness that Kathy couldn't be there to see me but I know she was with me every step of the way.

I managed to raise £311.25!! So a big thank you to everyone that sponsored me and got me past my target. I am truly grateful to each and every one of you.

Now at this point I would love to tell you exactly how much I have lost but unfortunately the scales are in storage! But I've used Mum's scales and all in all I have lost roughly about 2 stone. But more importantly I've gone down 2 dress sizes and feel so much better for it, only problem being hardly any of my clothes fit me....damn I'll just have to buy a whole new wardrobe!
